A long-anticipated agreement with a Saudi firm to operate the newly constructed Patenga Container Terminal (PCT) at the Chattogram port is scheduled to be signed tomorrow, 6th December. The signing ceremony between Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) and Red Sea Gateway Terminal International (RSGTI) will take place at the Prime Minister’s Office, with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina set to join the event at 10:40 am. The Saudi firm, RSGTI, will manage and operate the terminal for 22 years under a public-private partnership (PPP) model through a government-to-government arrangement.
The signing coincides with the visit of a high-profile Saudi delegation led by Saudi Investment Minister Engineer Khalid Bin Falih. The PCT, inaugurated by the prime minister on November 14th, is a significant expansion of the Chattogram port, addressing the business community’s longstanding demand. Construction of the terminal, featuring three 200-meter-long jetties and a 220-meter dolphin jetty, was completed in July last year, and this agreement marks a crucial step toward its full operationalization.
