The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) recently urged the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) to enhance the capacity of the port as per a demand of the export-import sector, particularly the readymade garments (RMG) industry.
It also called for enhancing port efficiency to handle cargo within the shortest possible time.
BGMEA president Faruque Hassan conveyed this CPA chairman Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail in Chattogram, a BGMEA press release said.
As the industry aims at diversifying from basic to high-end fashion segment to raise its export share in the global market, the latter needs shorter lead time, he added.
